About Me
Hi, I'm Hanna, the owner of Out n' About Dog Walking & Pet Services.
I started Out n' About in 2021, but my experience with dogs goes back much further. Having grown up with dogs, I've always had a passion for animals and understanding their individual personalities. Before starting my business, I volunteered with the GSPCA and worked as a dog walker, giving me valuable hands-on experience with dogs of all breeds, ages, and temperaments.
Over the years, I've also completed a variety of qualifications to support my work. While learning is important and I continue to develop my knowledge, I believe there's no substitute for real-life experience. Every dog is different, and spending time working with them every day has taught me the importance of patience, understanding, and adapting to each dog's individual needs.
I myself have also taken multiple qualifications including:
Canine First Aid Diploma Distinction
Canine Behaviour Training Diploma Distinction
Canine Communication Diploma Distinction
Dog Training Diploma Distinction
Feline Behaviour & Psychology Diploma Distinction
Canine Business Diploma Distinction
My biggest teacher has been my own dog, Bailey, a four-year-old Border Collie who came to me as a rescue. When Bailey first joined my family, he struggled with significant behavioural challenges, including being reactive to just about everything. Working through those challenges together completely changed the way I understand dog behaviour and training. It showed me that progress takes time, consistency, and building trust.
Today, Bailey is my adventure buddy, and we enjoy doing almost everything together. We compete in obedience and hoopers, and he also loved taking part in agility before being diagnosed with hip dysplasia and spondylosis. Although those diagnoses meant making changes to the activities he could safely enjoy, they also taught me even more about adapting exercise and enrichment to suit each dog's physical and emotional needs. Bailey continues to thrive, and I'm incredibly proud of how far he's come.
Before Bailey, there was Lucy, who first sparked my passion for dog training. She inspired me to learn more about canine behaviour and gave me the drive to keep expanding my knowledge. Thanks to Lucy, I discovered how rewarding it is to help dogs overcome challenges and become the happiest, most confident versions of themselves.
At Out n' About, I have a particular passion for helping dogs who need a little extra understanding. Whether they're lacking confidence, struggling with reactivity, or simply need a routine that's tailored to their personality, I believe every dog deserves the opportunity to succeed. My aim is always to provide calm, compassionate care while helping each dog feel safe, confident, and happy.
For me, this isn't just a job, it's something I genuinely love. Building relationships with dogs and their owners and watching dogs grow in confidence is the most rewarding part of what I do, and I look forward to welcoming your dog into the Out n' About family.
